My training for the Dirty German Endurance Fest got derailed by my stupid stomach issues. I ended up at the GI and am currently in the midst of several procedures being done to figure out what’s going on. Needless to say, I will not be ready to run 50 miles in 3 weeks. I was considering attempting the 50k option, but since my next procedure is the week prior to the race, I think I’m just going to suck it up and not race at all. Although, there is a 25k option… Hmm.
Next on my list is the 1/2 Sauer 1/2 Kraut on June 4th. This will be my 2nd year running this race, and I’m still torn between choosing the half marathon or the full. This was supposed to be my first marathon last year, but they had to close the course early due to excessive heat. If I remember correctly, I missed the turn around cut-off by less than 1 minute. I’d probably still be upset about that if it hadn’t been for the Sloppy Cuckoo a few months later, where I blew right past not only marathon distance, but 50k as well (I ran 35.19 miles :)).
So anyways, I want to do the full, but again with my training being out of whack, would I be ready in 6 weeks? My last long run was 16 miles on March 19th. Since then, I’ve only ran 3 times because of the tummy problems, and they were all short runs. I’m running a virtual 10k this weekend, so I suppose I’ll decide after I see how that goes.
Now, the good news!! My shoe search is over!! The New Balance Zante v2 is the winner!! And the (also New Balance) Vazee Pace remain in 2nd place. Of course, this probably doesn’t mean I’ll quit buying and trying (haha!) but my feet are finally happy again!
I also have them in black/pink, but can’t seem to find the picture right now. And no, my feet aren’t green – those are my favorite Injinji socks ;)
No racing The Dirty German. You are going to need your energy to recover. You could probably do the 1/2 Saur 1/2 Kraut marathon but see how you feel closer to race day. Yay for happy feet!!! Now you just need a happy tummy. <3
Yeah, when I realized it’s the week after the next procedure, there’s just no way I’ll be able to do it :(
I agree with Natalie – let your body recover from the procedures it’s currently going through. Then you can listen to your body and decide what to do about the next race. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the medical team figures out what’s going on with your stomach and can fix it so that you don’t have to deal with it anymore!
Me too, thanks!! I will forego the Dirty German and see how I feel after the next procedure before registering for anything.
Yes, probably much better a wait & see than a DNS (assuming this race doesn’t sell out?). Even if it does sell out, still probably best to take a wait & see stance.
I’m going to be smart (for a change) and skip this one altogether ;)
I wonder if you can get deferred to next year for your races so that you don’t lose that financial investment. It is disappointing though.
It really does look like your feet are painted green! My favorite color too! My KitchenAid mixer matches them!
Because of my IBS I don’t register until the last minute (meaning I hadn’t signed up yet), so thankfully I’m not out any money :)
